Despite hopes of attending this Sunday's (Feb. 10) Grammy Awards, troubled soul singer Amy Winehouse's application for a visa has been denied. Yet her presence will still be felt as it has been confirmed that she will be performing via satelilite.According to The Associated Press, the British songbird was denied access into the States yesterday by the U.S. Embassy. The singer recently entered a rehabilitation facility in hopes that it would improve her chances of obtaining a visa. U.S. officials were reportedly alarmed by her perceived drug usage, prompting the singer to seek professional help. And though those chances did not improve, representatives at the Outside Organization where Winehouse is seeking help, say that she is doing much better with her substance abuse issues. "Amy has been progressing well since entering a rehabilitation clinic two weeks ago and although disappointed with the decision has accepted the ruling and will be concentrating on her recovery," the organization said via email. No specific reason was given to why the singer's visa application had been denied and the U.S. Embassy in London chose not to comment on the issue. Though she will not physically be in attendance at the coveted awards show, her presence will still be felt. Aside from being nominated for six awards this year, the singer is set to perform via satellite from the U.K., according to Entertainment Weekly. Winehouse will also accept her awards via satellite as well, if she happens to win. |
