Venet Guthrie otherwise called Judith, a 39 year old Constable who was stationed at the Lucea Police Station in Hanover, Jamaica was shot and killed by a lone gunman, at her home in Kingsvale, Hanover on Friday morning October 17, 2008, while at home with her 19 year old daughter Kaderie Watson.
It is alleged that the gunman who was wearing a mask gained entry to Miss Guthrie's bedroom by prying a window open. He then searched her handbag where he saw her police identification card and her service revolver which the gunman took after fatally shooting the Constable in front of her daughter.
The gunman then escaped on foot. It is also alleged that the gunman had intention on raping the policewoman's daughter when she cried out that she was menstruating; and prooved it by showing the sanitary napkin to the gunman, who spared her life.
When Yardflex visited the scene yesterday evening, several family members and friends were seen mourning. Guthrie is the 10th police officer to be killed since the start of the year. She has been in the force for well over six years. Prior to that the late office worked at Jockeys Garment Factory in Lucea, Hanover.
