R. Kelly's Child Porn Case Judge Denies Doctor's Testimony

During a pre-trial court date earlier today (Jan. 14), the judge in R. Kelly's child pornography case said that he will not allow the prosecution to call a pediatrician to the stand.

The Pied Piper is facing charges that he videotaped himself having sex with a teenage girl, possibly as young as 14.

As previously reported, the girl who the prosecution believes was videotaped denies that it was her. So the team wants to bring in Dr. Sharon Cooper, a forensic and developmental pediatrician, to testify that denial is common among victims of child abuse.

This is the second time the prosecution has tried to get the doctor's testimony in, and the second time Judge Vincent Gaughan has denied the request.

"This doctor coming on would really be coming on to discuss credibility, and that's not beyond the ken of the jury," Gaughan said.

R. Kelly's defense lawyer, Ed Genson, said cases cited by prosecutors as precedent did not apply.

"There's a specific denial [by the girl] in front of the grand jury," Genson said.

Kells narrowly escaped being arrested last month when he missed a court date. Kelly didn't speak during today's (Jan 14) brief hearing. The case has been delayed for five years but is set for trial on May 9. Kelly's next court date is March 12.
