Prodigy has been due to head to the slammer twice in the past month and a half, but the rapper is still free.

Prodigy, one half of the infamous Queens, New York rap staple Mobb Deep, was due to begin a 3-1/2-year bid in state prison yesterday (Feb. 13), after being caught with a loaded, unregistered .22-caliber gun in 2006.

First he was given a 30-day extension so doctors could compile his medical records. The rapper suffers from Sickle Cell disease. Now, he will be granted another week on the streets after he was hospitalized from painful complications stemming from the disease, reports the New York Post. He'll go to jail on Feb. 20, according to a press release.

recently spoke with the rapper as he prepared to serve his bid. Getting his mind ready for the time away, he talked about the things he'll miss most while he's away.

"The number one thing I'm gonna miss the most is being able to go into the studio and record new music," Prodigy told exclusively. "For the last 16, 17 years, we don't let two weeks go by without recording something new." [Watch Below]

While he won't be able to record any new music behind bars, the rapper has finished work on his latest album, H.N.I.C. 2, the follow up to his first solo album in 2000 and is set to release the project on April 8. Well prepared to support the project P has already filmed a video for every track, including one from a jail cell, and he's tapped The Alchemist and Big Noyd to promote the project while he's behind bars.
