Rick Ross To Perform At Roy Jones Fight, Not Pastor Troy, Says Promoter

Miami rapper Rick Ross will accompany fellow Floridian Roy Jones, Jr. on his walk to the ring Saturday (Jan. 19) night for his Madison Square Garden fight against Felix Trinidad.

Touted as the "Bring On The Titans" match, Ross is expected to literally bring Jones from his dressing room to the ring while performing his new single "Boss."

"Roy really represents the struggle," Ross said via statement. "He's got the heart of a true champion, he doesn't let anything stand in his way. He's a true 'Boss' in every sense of the word. I got a lot of respect for Felix as a fighter and of course it's gonna be a great fight, but you know I have to ride for my man Roy. It's a great honor to bring him into the ring."

"Boss" is the second single from Ross' album Trilla, due out March 11 via Slip-N-Slide/Def Jam Recordings.

Jones, who has previously stepped into the booth to rap, also expressed his admiration for Ross.

"Rick Ross is an inspiration," Jones Jr. said, also via statement. "I follow his career and every time he comes out with a new album I buy it. I really enjoy it."

There has been recent talk that Jones would be brought out by Georgia rapper Pastor Troy, who was reportedly requested by Jones to pen an intro song "Bring On the Titans," specifically for the match. That confusion has been cleared up, as the event publicist for Don King Promotions confirmed that Rick Ross is the only performer confirmed to walk the boxer to the ring.

Ross follows in the footsteps of numerous hip-hop stars to make the walk to the ring; Redman and Method Man have accompanied Jones previously, while 50 Cent took the walk to the ring alongside "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather for his Cinco De Mayo match against Oscar De La Hoya last year.

The HBO Pay-Per-View event will also serve as a fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. "Bring on the Titans" event promoter Don King has already pledged $100,000 toward the cause and voiced his hopes to raise one million dollars toward fighting breast cancer.

The Roy Jones, Jr. vs. Felix Trinidad "Bring on the Titans" boxing match will be televised live on Pay-Per-View tomorrow at 9 p.m. EST.
