BMG label group announced yesterday (April 17) that one of music's most renowned executives, Clive Davis, will be replaced by Barry Weiss as chairman and chief executive officer.

According to Associated Press reports Davis who is 74, will become chief creative officer of Sony BMG, while 49 year-old Weiss, who previously served as president and CEO of the Zomba Label Group, will now oversee RCA Records, Jive, J Records, LaFace, Arista, Volcano, Verity, GospoCentric and Fo Yo Soul.

Weiss helped Jive Records grow with the successes of Usher, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears, as well as with recent acts Chris Brown and T-Pain.

Davis headed BMG after successfully starting J Records and Arista Records, following a previous stint at Columbia Records. He's famed for his work with Whitney Houston and Santana, as well as his instrumental role in launching Alicia Keys and Leona Lewis.

Sony BMG said that Davis will continue to work with top artists in his new position as chief creative officer at Sony BMG Worldwide.
