R&B singer and producer Static Major died in a Louisville, KY hospital yesterday (Feb. 25) at the young age of 33.

No autopsy has been performed, but according to media insider Sandra Rose, the producer (born Stephen Garrett) is rumored to have died from a brain aneurysm.

Static was a member of the Def Jam group Playa in the late '90s.

His biggest success, though, was Aaliyah's chart topping "Try Again" featured on the 2000 "Romeo Must Die" soundtrack. He also is credited for other heavy hitters like Ginuwine's "Pony," "Luv to Luv Ya" by Timbaland and Pretty Ricky's "On The Hotline" among a long list of others.

Blackground label mate and R&B singer Tank released a statement today to.

"We've lost one of the great song writers of our time but more than that we've lost a son, a brother, a husband, and a father," Tank said. "The Blackground family has been dealt yet another blow to the heart. God is still getting us through the last one and this too shall pass. Static I love you."

The long list of artists that Static has collaborated with include Jay-Z, Jamie Foxx, Christina Aguillera, Diddy, and David Banner's 2004 single "Crank It Up." Most recently, Static went into the studio with Lil' Wayne on the track "I Got My."

Fans have been leaving messages for the artist and condolences to the family on Static's Myspace page since last night.

"You are a genius," one poster proclaimed. "You'll definitely be missed but the music will live on forever," another read.

Static's discography is posted on his Myspace as well as several of his songs. He is survived by his wife and four children.
